Monday, November 8, 1999
On Thursday, November 4, 1999, at approximately 7:55 a.m., Olga Olguin, a 42 year old female Hispanic, left her home in Lincoln Heights (3500 block of Manitou Street) and was walking her children to a nearby elementary school. While on the sidewalk with her two boys (ages 4 and 7), she was approached from behind by a male Hispanic who shot her in the back of the head with a handgun. The suspect then fled the location. The victim of the shooting was in critical condition but is now in serious but stable condition at a local hospital. The victim did not succumb to her injuries and is expected to survive the attack.

Upon investigation, Hollenbeck Detectives arrested Rosa Maldonado (37 years) and Roberto Felix (29 years) for the attempted murder of Olga Olguin. Rosa Maldonado admitted to Hollenbeck Detectives that she was "deeply in love" with "Alejandro," the victim’s husband and that she hired Roberto Felix and paid him $4,000.00 to kill Olga Olguin. Upon further investigation, Hollenbeck Detectives confronted Roberto Felix who confirmed that Rosa Maldonado had asked him to kill the wife of her lover "Alejandro." He also confirmed that Rosa Maldonado gave him $4,000.00 up front to kill Olga Olguin with a promise to receive an additional $3,000.00 once he killed Olga Olguin. Roberto Felix also stated that Rosa Maldonado had specifically requested that Olga Olguin be shot while she was walking her two children to school.
