Records and Identification Division is a critical 24-hour, seven-days a week support function of the Department, providing records and information management systems and state-of-the-art identification services and technologies. The R&I Division manages the Department’s records retention program and is responsible for compiling, maintaining, and disseminating copies of Department records concerning crimes, arrests, pawned articles, traffic, property, firearms, securities, vehicles, boats and missing persons to law enforcement agencies, authorized outside agencies and citizens.
R&I is responsible for responding to requests for the collection, processing, and examination of inked friction ridge impressions from absentee subjects, in-court subjects, and department related victims of crime. Staff works closely with the Los Angeles County Regional Identification System (LACRIS) to stay up to date on training and biometric equipment. The Division utilizes an advanced biometric identification system to prepare, process, and search fingerprint images for examination and comparison to determine an individual’s identity at the local, state, and federal levels. Furthermore, Division personnel conduct manual examinations and comparisons of inked and digital fingerprints to ensure accurate, reliable, and conclusive identifications, supporting the Department’s commitment to professional and accurate forensic services.

The R&I Division is not authorized to release Arrest Reports to Suspect nor does it provide Crime or Traffic Reports at the Public Counter. Requests for Crime or Traffic Reports are accepted via mail at:
