WHY:
The Los Angeles Police Department has published the Racial and Identity Profiling Act (RIPA) Community Dashboard. The dashboard is based on the data collected for all pedestrian and traffic stops conducted by LAPD personnel. This data is required by California Assembly Bill 953, which is also known as the “Racial and Identity Profiling Act.”

This dashboard is the first of its kind for LAPD. It is frequently updated, easy to use, and interactive based on the user’s selections. There are six different pages which will show: the reason for the stop, the number of people stopped based on the officer’s perceived race of the individual, the officer’s actions during the stop, the number of individuals searched, the type of evidence or contraband was found, and the results of the stop. The dashboard can be used to view pedestrian and traffic stops across the city or be used to view a particular LAPD Geographic Area. This dashboard is aimed at increasing transparency with the diverse communities we serve.
